Father’s Day is that one day in the year when we get the chance to say ‘Dad? Thanks.†For all the support, the fun, the help and the laughs. We’ve got a few ideas on how to say it, but don’t worry – these treats are for everyone.
Keep it clean
A good weekly bike clean is normally reserved for the winter time, but with things being the way they are this summer, it’s looking like you’ll be reaching for the sponge a little more regularly. Water, grit and mud really can eat into bike components, so stock up on cleaners and degreasers to keep your pride and joy running smooth all year round. That way, when summer does finally arrive the bike will be ready to go as far as you want. We’re sure your dad will appreciate a courtesy clean too…
The right tools for the job make cleaning and maintaining your bike a whole lot more enjoyable. With a workstand you can say goodbye to flipping the bike over onto its saddle and bars, which, as well as being unstable, can damage brake levers and scuff saddles. It’s a lot easier to work with the bike at eye level, rather than bending double and trying to juggle spanners, tyre levers and interested children.

Rain stops play? No way!
You might not believe it, but it is June. With relentless rain and wind battering the windows, this week has been pretty challenging for those of us who still need to scratch that itch to ride. Fortunately, the brains of the bike industry have developed some brilliant wet weather gear, so no matter how wild it gets we’re still able to get out and hit the roads and trails. It’s not particularly cold, just wet, so you shouldn’t need gloves and overshoes – just grab a good waterproof jacket to keep your core dry and you’ll be good to go.

Be sure you’ve got all you need before you set out for the ride too. A puncture or a minor mechanical is very easy to fix if you have the right tools for the job, and a right pain in the derriere if you don’t.

The sun will come out!
We’re going to stick our necks out here and say that someday soon the sun will be blazing in the sky and it will be time to crack out the Sunday best. If you’re looking for that ideal gift for your dad, some new clobber will tick the box. Nothing beats getting out for a ride in new summer kit, so get him ready and set for the sunshine.

You might have heard of this one. The correct number of bikes to own is N+1, where ‘N’ is the number of bikes you already own. Now we’re not suggesting you buy the old man a new whip if you don’t want to, but that’s no reason not to suggest he buys himself one. Or buys you one for that matter!
